A second castle within the estate is this structure located on an island in one of the lakes. This is MacHugh Castle , a tower house thought to date from the fifteenth century when most such buildings were constructed. The island has been found to show traces of occupation right back to the Neolithic period. It had a major extension in the sixth century AD when it was expanded into the lake as a crannog. Clearly a place with a great weight of history and much atmosphere..
