The Irish College, Leuven.
Founded in 1607 by the Franciscans this was a source of learning about Ireland and the preservation of its history particularly in the Seventeenth Century. The College was responsible for  the project to record the history of Ireland known as the Annals of the Four Masters. It also developed a type face for  publications in Gaelic based upon manuscript sources. This typeface became the standard for printed books in the language for the next 250 years.  The typeface is enscribed on this entrance door and says:  'Dochum Glóire Dé agus Ónóra na hÉireann' ('For the Glory of God and the Honour of Ireland'). The college became the  Leuven Insitutue for Ireland in Europe in 1984 and was refurbished between 2004 and 2008 with support from the Government of the Republic of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Assembly.  It is open to visitors and has a very fine exhibition on its history. Well worth a visit.

The Town Hall, Leuven 1448 - 1469, dominates the market square and is a fantastic essay in late gothic architecture.

The entrance to the Great Begijnhof  world heritage site in Leuven, Belgium.  This is one of the best preserved examples of the type with almost 100 houses and a church and conference centre within its walls. The area which declined until the 1960′s has subsequently been conserved to a very high standard and is now used by the university.
