Boyle Abbey, Co. Roscommon. A Cistercian house dating from the twelfth century exhibiting the change from
Romanesque to Gothic architecture. One side of the church is flanked by round headed arches the other by pointed ones. Behind the altar three pointed lancet windows typical of the 'Transitional' style when Gothic forms were first introduced. The abbey ruins are well preserved and maintained and well worth a visit.
