Back at the the Museum of Irish Country Life yesterday- one of my favourite places.
St Martin's Cathedral in Ypres. Belgium, was originally constructed in the Gothic style between 1230, and 1370 but was largely destroyed during the First Wold War. After the war a decision was taken to rebuild it again and between 1922 and 1930 the building was completly rebuilt based upon previous records. Today it is a very convincing replica. The only difference being the external spire changed to a more pointed shape as intended in renovation proposals developed before 1914.
This drawing shows the EA Western Youth Orchestra performing in the nave in July 2017 - A great sound in a great space!,
