Birr Telescope, located in the grounds of the Seventeenth Century castle. Also known as the ’Leviathan of Parsonstown’, it was erected by the Third Earl of Rosse in 1845 and was, until 1917, the largest telescope in the world. In recent years it has been beautifully restored
