Co. donegal

Donegal was made a county by order of the Crown in 1585. The new county amalgamated the former Kingdom of Tír Conaill with the Lordship of Inishowen to the north. The County assumed its final form in 1613, when as part of the Ulster Plantation, a small area around Derry was taken to form 'liberties' for  the newly designated city.
