derry- Londonderry
On 2 March 1613, King James II granted a charter to the Honourable the Irish Society, a company created from the Guilds of London, to undertake a plantation of a new Irish county that covered the full area of the former County of Coleraine, large parts of County Tryone, and a small part of County Donegal around the town of 'Derrie'. The county was named Londonderry in honour of the London guilds and the location of their principal new settlement. Derrie was renamed Londonderry at the same time.
