Burt Chapel

In 1966, Liam McCormick’s masterpiece: St Angus’ Church in Burt, Co. Donegal was opened. This took the primitive approach to modernism to a  logical conclusion by linking it to actual pre-history. Located on high ground  at the base of Grianan hill, it takes the form of the Iron Age hill fort as its  inspiration. Its off centre spire, set over the altar, displays a modernist  sensibility and marks the structure out as something new and not just a  copy.
